What is the difference between these two? Actually nothing at all. 22 carat gold is supposed to have 91.6% gold in it. Now the jewelers in India are advertising as if 916 is some thing better than 22 carat. There is a 916 stamp on the jewelery. But you can put that stamp on even 16 carat jewelery also.
Another funny thing is the quality of the gold brought from Gulf countries and USA compared with that of Indian gold. The 22 carat from Gulf countries and USA are much more colorful than that obtained here. The reason is obviously less gold in the jewelery. In Gulf countries if they bust tou for under carating, they will chop the hands off. And in USA, if caught, you will end up paying millions of dollars in fine. So the consumers get good quality stuff from there.
In an advertisement seen regularly in TV in Kerala, a famous actor is saying, "916 gold in any where in India is of the same quality". By saying "any where in India", they are accpting that the jewelery from out side of India is better quality.

Drinking liquor in hiding!!
It is funny how people drink or buy liquor in Kerala. They do it in the most secretive way. When they come to the beverages store they usually try to give the money to some one who stands ahead in the queue. This is true even if there is like only one person ahead of you. Malayalees have a special love for standing in queues. You gotta love their joy for standing in queue!!
Once they get the liquor from the store the first thing you have to do is hide the bottle as fast as possible. The secret locations are your underwear's pocket, inside your pants or mund. There are some other gentlemen who stop their vehicles like 50 meters away from the store and get the help of a local goonda to get his bottle. They don't want to be seen buying liquor. So they give the tough guy a drink or two or Rs. 10 and get their drink.
A good percentage of malayalees consume alcohol. But they drink it as if they don't want any one else to see it. It is like doing a murder. You just swallow the whole bottle as fast as possible. Byu doing this, they are forgetting that liquor is some thing to be enjoyed. Just gulping like a cow and crashing some where is not the purpose of drinking. You need to enjoy the taste of the drink.
This hiding mentality prevails in weddings and other parties also. A good number of people drink. But it has to be done in hiding. Why is this hippocracy?
