Performance of government school teachers and their salaries.

There should be correlation between the salary and the performance they provide. As is seen in recent years, the number of kids getting enrolled in government schools is getting reduced rapidly. The reason for this is the better performance provided by private institutions. The parents want their kids to be competitive in the emerging world market and send their kids to private schools which provide better curriculum than the government schools. Government machinery will be 10 years behind the latest syllabus always. The private school teachers are getting these results with half the salary of government schools.

There were protests against the recent moves by the government of Kerala to redeploy the protected school teachers to panchayaths. The employees union, KSKTU, is claiming that, it is not the teacher's fault that the number of kids getting enrolled are going down. On the contrary, it is exactly the problem of teachers and the management who are not providing the quality education the parents want. If the management was not giving the facilities and updated syllabus, then the teachers should have voiced their protest and got the problems associated with the schools fixed. They only protest for their salaries.

It is not the problem of the government to protect under performing teachers and management. They need to be fired to gain better staff. The government teachers are not performing for the very high salary and other benefits they are getting when compared to the private school teachers. Once the government employees lose their job security, they will start performing better and the schools will start to show better grades.
